Generator set normally runs in high coolant temperature conditions. Over-high temperature not only causes the risk for failure, but also leads to lower efficiency owing to combustion air’s heat expanding. Hence, coolant must constantly cool the engine, lube oil and combustion air. To maintain coolant under low temperature, there are two measures, internal circulation cooled by air and external low temperature water cooling. The selection of these two measures depends on installation site and ambient conditions.
Cooling system design shall consider several important factors. Firstly, as today the land is one of the most valuable properties, equipment layout shall consider space effectiveness. Secondly, Central Business District and residential areas request strict noise control. Third is to evaluate investment economy. So, the cooling system solutions for some project are very challenging.
Solution 1:Stand Type Remote Radiator
If the friction head of the engine outlet, which is caused by pipe length or height of the radiator, is within the allowable extent, engine cooling system can directly connect with a stand type remote radiator and form an internal coolant circulation.The advantages of stand type remote radiator are simple structure, space saving and low investment. However, in CBD or residential areas, strict noise control is needed.
Solution 2:Stand Type Remote Radiator + Heat Exchanger
If the friction head of the engine outlet, which is caused by pipe length or height of the radiator, is beyond the allowable value, engine cooling system can directly connect with a heat exchanger to form an internal coolant circulation, and the heat exchanger connects with stand type remote radiator to form the external circulation system.
Solution 3:Horizontal Type Remote Radiator
If the friction head of the engine outlet, which is caused by pipe length or height of the radiator, is within the allowable extent, engine cooling system can directly connect with a horizontal type remote radiator and form an internal coolant circulation.The advantages of horizontal type remote radiator are good cooling effectiveness and low noise. The disadvantages are more space and high investment needed.
Solution 4:Horizontal Type Remote Radiator + Heat Exchanger

Solution 5:Cooling Tower + Heat Exchanger
For some tropical area, cooling tower can be used for external cooling circulation. With such solution, engine cooling system directly connects with a heat exchanger to form an internal coolant circulation, and the heat exchanger connects with horizontal type remote radiator to form the external circulation system.
